Wilco The Album finds Wilco the band happily returning from the wilderness, taking stock of where they've been and consolidating all they've learned into one tight, likeable record. The Album never veers too far into. All this studio texture is not the focal point, it's the coloring on a collection of straight-ahead rock and pop songs, tunes that are generally soft, sunny, and hazy - quite exquisitely so on the '70s George Harrison pastiche You Never Know and the nearly Baroque Deeper Down - but also jangly and sparkly, as on Sonny Feeling, or that have some measure of backbone, as on the spiky I'll Fight and the cool shuffle of Wilco The Song. Although it's hard to rank their albums, I'd put Wilco the album in my top three along with Summerteeth and Sky Blue Sky. Sure it doesn't push the boundaries like some of their other albums, but who can deny such great songwriting paired with Nels Cline guitar work. Not me, sucka 'One Wing' is a truly beautiful song and might be my favorite Wilco now. 0 of 0 users found this helpful. The album opens with Wilco the song, a shuffle that gives a good taste of the band. Leslie Feist is featured on You and I, the vocalist from the group Feist. She sings a duet with Tweedy which makes for a beautiful song. This is followed by You Never Know, which sounds almost reminiscent of a song from George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. The album is mostly a peaceful affair, such as Solitaire, one of the calmest Wilco songs I've ever heard. Wilco wFeist - You and I on Letterman 714 4:01. Wilco The Song 3:00. Wilco's weakest effort isn't bad at all, just-well, underwhelming. Released shortly after the break-up of Tweedy's previous group, Uncle Tupelo, A. is an even-handed collection of twangy jams and mournful ballads, some electric, some leaning acoustic but all buoyed by Tweedy's bruised vocals.
