Album

Guitarist Peter Leitch can always be relied upon to play high-quality modern straight-ahead jazz. On this Reservoir CD, he heads a quintet that also features the underrated but talented Jed Levy on tenor and on two numbers flute, pianist George Cables, bassist Dwayne Burno, and drummer Steve Johns. The music is primarily hard bop, with the highlights including Henry Mancini's Theme from Mr. Lucky, Charlie Parker's obscure Segment, and an unaccompanied acoustic guitar version of East of the Sun. Peter John Leitch born August 19, 1944 is a Canadian jazz guitarist. Leitch started playing guitar in his teens. He accompanied many different acts at nightclubs in Montreal. He recorded with Sadik Hakim in the early 1970s. During the late 1970s, he worked in Toronto with Milt Jackson, Red Norvo, and Kenny Wheeler and went on tour with Fraser MacPherson in the Soviet Union. He was also a member of the Al Grey-Jimmy Forrest quintet. In the early 1980s he moved to New York City, where he played with. Peter Leitch: Autobiography. Guitarist Peter Leitch, a fixture on the New York jazz scene since emigrating from his native Canada in 1983, plays with a graceful bop style informed with swing and, at times, fiery passion. He draws like-minded players to his bands and many studio projects, as evidenced on his newest recording on Reservoir Music. Autobiography is a collaboration with tenor sax and flautist Jed Levy, pianist George Cables, bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Steve Johns. For D. gets things off to a strong st.
