It is cited by Stephen Thomas Erlewine as one of the great electric blues albums. That's All I Need - Magic Sam 3:40. I Need You So Bad - B. King, Sam Ling 4:51. I Feel So Good I Wanna Boogie - Magic Sam 4:36. All Of Your Love - Magic Sam 3:43. I Don't Want No Woman - Don Robey 3:38. Sweet Home Chicago - Robert Johnson 4:11. I Found a New Love Milton Campbell & Bob Lyons 4:03. This is the inevitable side effect of time, when an album that is decades old enters the history books, but this isn't an album that should be preserved in amber, seen only as an important record. Because this is a record that is exploding with life, a record with so much energy, it doesn't sound old. Of course, part of the reason it sounds so modern is because this is the template for most modern blues, whether it comes from Chicago or elsewhere. Magic Sam - West Side Soul 1967. Kicking the Canon album selection, 1967. Samuel Gene Maghett entered Cobras recording studios in 1957 as Good Rocking Sam, and luckily for all of us, some other Samuel was already laying claim to the clunky sobriquet. Maybe it really was Sams old friend and bass player Mack Thompson who suggested swapping Maghett out for Magic, or maybe label talent scout Willie Dixon had the bright idea. Ten years after All of Your Love, Magic Sam was still haunting the West Side, after a brief Army detour and subsequent desertion charges derailed his career almost as soon as it started. West Side Soul is ranked 5,113th in the overall chart, 383rd in the 1960s, and 61st in the year 1967. This album is rated in the top 13 of all albums on . West Side Soul is true-blue city blues, an absolute must-own for anyone interested in the genre. Folk and rock and rap and jazz are great at times, but sometimes you just need the blues. And unless you're willing to swan dive into a vat of dye at the local Levi's factory, you can't get any bluer than this. This album is Magic Sam Maghett's finest hour, and one of the finest electric blues albums of the 60s. He plays blues with a strong soul influence, particularly on the magnificent That's All I Need and I Don't Want No Woman. Modern Talking You're My Heart, You're My Soul. Радиола 103 FM.
