Album

Kojak Variety is a 1995 album by Elvis Costello, composed of cover songs written by others. Costello's rendering of Days by The Kinks had previously appeared on the album Until the End of the World, the 1991 soundtrack to Wim Wenders' film of the same name. The remainder of the songs were recorded specifically for this album. The title Kojak Variety refers to the name of a variety store in Barbados near where the album was recorded Costello was amused by the seemingly random name of the enterprise. Englantilainen laulaja-lauluntekijä saapui äänittämään Suomenlinnan studiolle helmikuussa. Tämä on The Helsinki Sound, Helsingin äänimaisema , hän sanoi uuden singlensä No Flagin sai olla rauhassa kolmen päivän vierailun ajan, kappaleet äänittänyt Eetu Seppälä kertoo. Yhteistyö sujui. Hän oli oikea jalat maassa -tyyppi. Kappaleet olivat valmiita, mutta sovituksia alettiin rakentaa studiossa. With 'Kojak Variety', from 1995, Costello is a crooner, picking forgotten tunes by both minor & major artists anyone from Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Bob Dylan. Guest musicians include Marc Ribot & Jim Keltner. Warner Brothers. Songs he wishes he wrote. A mixed bag, both in genre and quality of performance, but Kojak Variety is often convincing. Unsurprisingly, its best moments come on ballads. It's really that good. I think most Elvis Costello fans will enjoy this album regardless, but the real treats are on the bonus disc.
